A view of PartMaker’s Full Machine Simulation in Version 8.6 module.

PartMaker Inc. (Fort Washington, PA), a subsidiary of Delcam Plc, is shipping Version 8.6 of its PartMaker CAD/CAM software for CNC Mills, lathes, WireEDM, turn-mill centers, and Swiss-type lathes.

PartMaker Version 8.6 offers improvements in solids-based programming, enhancements to the software’s Surface Machining Wizard module, better tool selection, enhanced control over grooving tools, and improvements in Full Machine Simulation module.

PartMaker Version 8.6 also marks the introduction of the concept of Face Planes, which simplify the programming of parts with multiple faces when a solid model is available and improve visualization of the areas that need to be machined on a model.

The Surface Machining Wizard (SMW) modules in Version 8.6 is said to offer improved machining strategies by adding axial step to finishing and projection strategies, giving you nine more roughing strategies and more control in finishing operation. Plus, 3D milling can now be performed in multiple coordinate systems on mills, suitable for 3D milling applications on horizontal machining centers.

Version 8.6 supports the simulation of inclined turning tools used on lathes equipped with B-axis heads, as well as the simulation of mini-turrets, which must be tipped on angle when used in practice, and offers enhancements to grooving.

PartMaker is a knowledge based machining system, allowing it to provide a substantial gain in programming efficiency by remembering the tools, material, and process information necessary to machine individual part features. It thus relieves the user from reentering the same features information for subsequent parts.
